GSM gateways or Fixed Wireless Terminals are a fantastic way to slash your phone bills. With up to 70% of a typical phone bill being office phone calls to mobile phones, FWT / GSM gateways can save you a small fortune.
If you currently have a fleet of mobile phones (2+) on a fleet plan then GSM or FWT will give you FREE calls from your office to your staff. Think about how much you’ll save! The GSM gateway has a SIM card that is also on your Fleet plan. This way whatever fleet deal you’ve negotiated is also extended to your office landline phones. Some carriers offer free calls for 10 minutes others offer 5 cents for 10 minutes...
Fixed Wireless Terminals connect to your PABX or phone system via your PSTN trunk or line cards. They do not actually require you to have a PSTN phone line this is simply how FWT communicate with your phone system. Inside the GSM gateway you insert a SIM card – just like a normal mobile phone. Your telephone system is then programmed (LCR’d) so that when you dial a mobile phone number from your office the phone call is routed out via the GSM gateway. This programming of phone systems is called LCR or least cost routing and this determines how different types of phone calls (STD, Local, International and Fixed to Mobile) exit your phone system.
Whatever plan you’re on GSM or FWT can be an excellent way to get cheap phone bills. Beware – GSM gateways are not suited for all business and you need to compare your landline rates to your mobile rates.
