Alcatel Lucent 4029 Phone Handset (Digital Executive)

The Alcatel-Lucent 4029 digital phone is the executive model in the 9 series digital range. It's perfect for everyday phone users. For a full overview please read below.

Key features of the Alcatel Lucent 4029 phone handset include:

Alcatel 4029 Phone Handset (Executive phone)

The Alcatel-Lucent 4029 phone is the mid level or executive model in the Alcatel 9 series digital phone series. They are designed to operate with the Alcatel Omni PCX as well as the smaller business Alcatel Omni PCX Compact pbx system. It is very similar to the larger 4039 receptionist handset with a few minor differences: the screen is smaller, it only has 6 function keys versus the 10 on the 4039 and the display is black and white not 4 levels of grey. In terms of handset colour choice the 4029 offers both urban grey and arctic white.

The 4029 phone is the most popular in the series and most implementations will contain about 90% of these handsets. For most staff they simply don’t need the larger screens. With the 6 soft keys (3 on either side of the screen) users can see 6 items staff/phone lines or anything else on a screen at one time. The exact display of items can be customised easily to the individual user so they can prioritise what they visually see. There are up to 40 programmable buttons and they are achieved by the user scrolling from one screen to the next with the easy to use navigator. The only reason to get the 4039 is if your staff want to see 10 items per screen.

For people that like to see everything going on at a glance we find the better solution is to buy the 4029 and then buy an extra console with another 40 buttons on the side. This way it replicates a more traditional key system and everything is right there in front of you.

One of the best and most appreciated features of the Alcatel 4029 is the large QWERTY keyboard that sits at the bottom of the phone. For people that speed dial customers a lot there is simply nothing easier on the market. If you want to dial John Smith for example, you start typing “SM”, or the whole name and it present all your speed dials on screen that are relevant. Use the navigator to find the name and then hit the OK button. It dials straight away and it is incredibly effective. Staff can also use the keyboard for internal messaging if you choose to allow this feature.

The 4029 silver navigation key (the silver round button in the middle) makes access to the handsets menu and functions very straight forward. It’s easy to use and very intuitive. In a flash of design and ergonomic inspiration Alcatel also resized and coloured all the frequently used handset functions like hold, mute, voicemail, speakerphone and transfer. The more popular the function, the stronger the colour and the larger the button. The handset still looks great but for a daily user this makes it easier again.

If you’re after phone for basic phone users, kitchens, retail shops, entry foyers etc then the very affordable 4019 phone is the smart choice and great addition to your Alcatel Omni PCX phone system. It isn’t as feature rich as the 4029 but for a basic phone on a budget it offers a lot.

For staff that are used to traditional style phones the 4029 and 4039 are quite a departure. Many manufacturers today make large screen models as well as other ranges with the more traditional handsets and lots of visible buttons. Unfortunately Alcatel only makes the large screen versions and this can be off-putting to some small business buyers. In larger companies where you don’t expect to see all the staff, and there’s always a reception point, this is less of an issue. The handsets are great but it really depends on what you’re looking for. Another drawback of the 4029, and 4039, is that the 6 soft keys are not LED. The status of staff/ phone lines is displayed on screen. For users that are used to seeing flashing multi colour LED lights this may take a little getting used to. At least this is where the 40 button DSS console with LED status comes in very handy for reception staff. The 4029 handset is more like a large screen mobile phone that you can scroll down using the large navigator button on the console to view items and access features.

While there are some shortcomings for some customers, there are also brilliant and unique features that make the Alcatel 4029 phone intelligent for daily use. The price point for the handset is also important because some brands charge a lot more for a whole lot less.

When you are implementing an Alcatel Omni PCX pbx system you MUST also have at least one 4039 Digital – this is for programming purposes and for most companies it also doubles as the receptionist phone anyway.

If you are looking at IP handsets then check out the equivalent 4028 handset from the Alcatel 8 series IP range. The 4028 IP is essentially identical in terms of features however it has a built in 10/100MB switch for IP. While there are numerous benefits in IP for the right company, the IP handset costs are always higher.

The Alcatel 4029 phone comes with a 12-month Alcatel warranty as well as our exclusive free phone support for the life of your Alcatel Omni PCX phone system. Obviously this offer is only available to Infiniti customers.
