Avaya 9630G Phone Handset

The Avaya 9630G IP phone is one of the mid tier models in the large 9600 IP series lineup. It’s designed with everyday users in mind and keeps costs down by offering a greyscale screen but still offers Gigabit connectivity. For more detailed information about the 9630G phone please read below.

Avaya 9630G Phone Handset (Executive SIP phone)

The Avaya 9630G IP handset (and 9640G ) is essentially a step up in some ways from the 9608 and 9611 . The 9630 (and 9640) are different in that they both offer Gigabit support, POE class 2, have a range of different handset colours to choose from, USB ports and custom faceplate options.

The 9630G is cheaper than the virtually identical 9640G because you get a greyscale screen not colour. Colour screens on the Avaya 9600 IP phones are definitely easier to use as you can more readily differentiate items on screen by their colour coding. You do pay a premium for this and it 's up to you if it 's worth the extra money. The 9630G comes in a range of handset colour offerings with grey, red, yellow, blue, white and silver available. The greyscale screen is not touch and there are 6 administrative buttons on the side of the screen.

Unlike the 9611G and 9608 the LED buttons next to the 6 keys only come in red (not red and green). The different LED colours actually make it easier to see status of the buttons at a glance and in some ways having only red LED on the 9630G phone is not as good. The 6 administrative buttons allow you to see up to 24 items (6 per screen and 4 levels across) so you can see a lot of what 's going on with regard to staff/ phone lines, or however you have chosen to program the buttons. Remove the need for handset colour options, POE class 2 and custom face plates and we think the Avaya 9611G IP is a much smarter option for everyday users. It also offers 24 administrative buttons, a colour screen (not greyscale), red/green LED status lights and it 's approximately half the RRP price. Unless specific colour handsets are a key decision driver for your business you 'd be hard pressed to go past the 9611G phone for everyday users.

The Avaya 9630G is designed for the everyday, or essential user in the Avaya terminology, and like all 9600 IP phones handsets it incorporates wideband audio to deliver the best, most natural sounding IP telephony. The 9630G handset also has the popular soft keys (4) below the display that are contextually sensitive. For a user this means the phone will intelligently present the best options depending on what function you 're performing on screen. For example, if you 're on a phone call it will show you soft key options for join (conference), drop, hold, cancel. This makes life much easier rather than having to think, or navigate, around the 9630 handset to perform the most logical tasks at that time.

In a typical gigabit environment rollout the Avaya 9611G IP and 9621G phones are normally the most popular. We only see the 9620C , 9630 and 9640 handsets going in where colour, not functionality, is the overriding consideration. The cheaper 9608 is still an excellent choice for companies maintaining 10/100MB environments. Whichever Avaya IP handsets you choose you can also mix and match from any of the Avaya IP or phone handsets in any of the budget or premium series. This is a great way to keep costs down and tailor the solution to individual staff needs.

Like all IP handsets, the Avaya 9630 phone handset will connect to any ethernet port that is active on the Avaya IP500 pabx (must be v.6.0 and higher for the 9630G). The 9630 phone will automatically register and this feature of IP handsets really makes staff moves simple and quick. When you activate and login, your extension number and all phone programming automatically moves with you. If you have staff that move around and work in other office locations they simply login to any available IP handset to bring up all their settings from their normal office phone, including their own extension number.
