NEC DT330 DTL-32D Digital Phone Handset

The only real differences between the NEC DT330 32D handset and other models in the DT330 series are the number of programmable buttons they have on offer. The DT330 32D offers the most user buttons with 32 and achieves this with an extra side module over the 24D. This also makes the phone footprint fractionally larger but given it is a receptionist handset it should make little difference

The only real differences between the NEC DT330 32D handset and other models in the DT330 series are the number of programmable buttons they have on offer. The DT330 32D offers the most user buttons with 32 and achieves this with an extra side module over the DT330 24D. This also makes the phone footprint fractionally larger but given it is a receptionist handset it should make little difference.

Without adding extra button modules, 32 is the maximum you will find on any phone handset (most max out at 24). Most brands have gone to a much larger screen design that allow you to scroll between screens. This allows users to see more but you can't underestimate the ease of use achieved by having everything clearly visible right in front of you. You could consider this a bit of a throwback to traditional pbx handsets but they have continued with this design because it works. Accompanying the 32 buttons are multi colour LED indicator lights that change colour to display the status of the keys and whether they are busy or free (depending on what you have customised them to do). Like all the NEC DT330 digital series the DTL-32D phone is well designed and very easy to use. The screen is perhaps smaller than many current digital models on offer but it is backlit and easy to see in any light conditions.

Below the NEC DT330 32D display screen there are also 4 context keys that make day to day use much easier. To a user it means that the phone logically predicts which options are best for you based on what you're doing. It then displays them on screen above the 4 corresponding soft keys for easy access. For example if you're accessing voicemail it will present with delete, save etc. So popular is this feature that most phone companies have universally adopted this functionality. To the right of the context keys is also a very handy and unique "help" key. If you ever lose your user guide, which so many people do, you'll always be able to get help on handset features directly from the screen at any time. It is a great addition to the DT330 32D phone and surprisingly it is something that many brands do not offer. One of the drawbacks of not having everything on screen is you still need to use paper labels with the 32 keys. Larger screen models have eliminated this completely as the handsets are self labelling. It's only a small thing but may be a reason to look at the DT330 DESI less phone which offers this.

The NEC DT330 DTL-32D handset also offers users a navigator button for quick access to system directories, redials and the like. Sometimes if you have customers or suppliers you contact all the time it is still easier to program them into one of the 32 programmable buttons for one touch calling.

The sound quality on the NEC DT330 32D phone is very good as you'd expect and even offers Full Duplex handset free capabilities. So what does that actually mean? The "Full Duplex" technology means that you can use the speakerphone on the DT330 32D for conference calls and have the same advanced technology as you find on expensive Polycom conference phones. It allows multiple people on a conference to talk over each other without the voice quality sounding clipped and experiencing sound losses.

NEC UNIVERGE SV8000 IP Pbx phone systems are of a hybrid nature. Unlike pure IP or hosted solutions that only support IP, these "hybrid" systems can connect to digital, IP and analogue phones. This allows you to mix and match handsets options and is a great way to keep costs down. Digital handsets are cheaper than IP versions however there are benefits to having some IP phones. For example IP phones are great for remote workers, staff that hot desk or if you have limited phone cabling available in the office.

You do not have to use all digital or all IP phones. Many customers use VoIP phones sparingly because of the additional costs. And if you are getting VoIP phone lines do not think that you must have IP handsets to go with it - this is the benefit of a hybrid pbx system. The other good news is that the IP and digital phone models look identical so you won't end up with different looking handsets around the office. As a further note, the NEC DT730 32D IP phone also allows for instantaneous plug and play registration. Unlike digital phones like this one that need to be programmed an IP handset instantly finds the pbx once connected to a live port. You then login to the phone and it will instantly bring all your personalised settings and even your extension number. This is one of the greatest benefits of IP technology. For remote users the same applies and if they're at home etc they simply connect to their network switch and away they go. If you have fewer desks than staff and hotdesk then it makes it very easy for transient staff to have a phone when they need one. The next user simply logins again as themselves and the settings change for each person.

The NEC DT330 32D digital phone is easy to use with the 32 buttons and is a very good option for managers and receptionists alike. The reality is that most staff would have more than enough programmable options with the 12D or 24D phone models.
