Review of the LG Ericsson iPECS for home office (also known as LG Nortel iPECS and LG Aria iPECS)
The LG Ericsson iPECS phone system (also known as the LG Nortel iPECS and LG Aria iPECS) is a pure IP or VoIP phone system. Whereas the LG SOHO is a wireless phone system and the LG 24IPE is a fixed wire digital solution, the iPECS uses IP handsets to connect back to a modular IP call server. What this means to you as a user is that you’ll be able to enjoy all the advantages of a full VoIP phone system, from incredibly low call costs to enhanced communications features.

If you don’t decide to connect to VoIP straight away, the iPECS also allows for a variety of different phone line connections including ISDN 2 (basic rate) PSTN, Onramp 10 (primary rate or multiline) and SIP/H323 VoIP trunks.

The Not So Good
While the LG Nortel iPECS does now sit at a lower price point than it has previously, there are other offerings out that give better bang for your buck. Having said this, the extra features offered by other brands won’t be used by most home offices so this may render the point moot.
The CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) functionality is not the best either. Again though, since most home offices won’t be connecting the iPECS to their CRM or communications applications, this may not be a significant factor. For those that are using CTI, please note the iPECS doesn’t support Apple computers or devices.
The Verdict
Compared to the 24IPE, the LG iPECS is a superior phone system that gives you full access to the many advantages of VoIP. If you currently own an LG system, you’ll also be able to transfer your handsets across to significantly cut changeover costs.
In short, the iPECS is a capable, incredibly easy-to-use system. Unfortunately, the Avaya IP 500 Office is the better choice given its value.
